This year I was chosen as one of two Iowa-based muralists for the Iowans Create Community Mural Program, a yearly public art endeavor funded by the Iowa Arts Council. I was paired with the city of Waverly, Iowa to design a horizontally-endowed mural on a 58’ long by 18’ tall wall. The wall faces a busy bike path teeming with walkers and bikers of all ages - the perfect spot for an oversized, winding charm bracelet that ebbs and flows along the wall.
The mural was completed in mid-June, and the mural concept plays with the idea of a charm bracelet, an object not so unfamiliar to me in my own studio work! A charm bracelet is a deeply personal object that is worn to reflect one’s identity, interests, and, here, civic pride.
